I had to laugh at The Boy this morning as he got changed 3 times! Because you see today is non-school uniform day. Now I remember these days well as kid. They could either fill you with dread or delight. If you had something to wear that was bang on trend then nothing could go wrong at school. You felt like you were almost on the same level as the 'In Crowd'. In fact you were part of the 'In Crowd' and you could take on the world. If however your idea of fashion was something warm and practical then NSUD was your initiation into how sometimes clothes can define you and put you into a group whether you realise it or not. That sounds materialistic but unfortunately in some cases it's true.
Now I have to admit over the years I've been in both these groups but let me tell you Matchstick trainers do NOT put you in the cool group!! Little did I know that when I was happily choosing my new trainers at Freeman Hardy Willis with my mum, this would be my first introduction to branding and boy did it scar me for many years! It's funny but I can remember the boy who first noticed them and who took great delight in laughing at them with his mates. I was gutted. I had no idea that a word stitched onto my trainers could not only be so important to others but also make me feel so ridiculous. I remember colouring the word in with a black marker so nobody could see the word, wondering what my mum would say when she noticed. I hoped she wouldn't spot what I'd done and come to think of it, I don't remember if she did actually notice but I'll always remember that feeling of not fitting in. Instead of being proud of my trainers I instantly hated them for making me so un-cool.
Now that I'm older and ahem, somewhat wiser I realise how silly that was but when your a kid, things like that matter and can really knock your self-esteem. I watched The Boy changing his mind over what to wear remembering how important it is to get it right. I tell him it doesn't matter what he wears but I remember how hurt I was when I was ridiculed. I needn't worry, my son is way cooler than I was at that age but it brought back some memories of school days that you tend to forget as you get older. Many adults think kids don't have anything to worry about when that's not true. They fret about things which may seem insignificant to us but mean the world to them. Our problems aren't bigger than theirs, just different and sometimes we forget how cruel school can be.

5 Is The Magic Number
Ok so I loved this idea so much I shamlessley stole it from East End Lass http://normalinlondon.wordpress.com/ with her permission of course. Basically 5 x 5 are 5 lists of 5. I love making lists, especially to do lists. My desk is covered in post its with reminders! The 5 x 5 lists are more personal though and it's also a good way of getting to know people. The lists can be of anything you want. Maybe things you own, want, read, watch on TV, etc. Anyway here are my lists..............
5 Things I've Recently Had Series Linked
1. Eastenders I know some of you may think this is a load of drivel but I need it! When you're surrounded by a bunch of eh up me duck northerners like I am it's the only thing that sounds normal!
2. Celebrity Juice You gotta love the shock factor.
3. Touch Yet to actually watch any episodes but heard it's supposed to be good.
4. The Apprentice Always end up yelling at the T.V as if I could do any better! Oh and check out how big Alan Sugars earlobes are. They are massive!!
5. My Big Fat Gypsy Wedding
5 Favourite Words
1. Shabbatronic
2. Rotund
3. Debauchary
4. Troglodyte
5. Ripple
5 Things In My Bag
1. A snotty tissue. Even worse, it's not mine.
2. A Kodak film. I found this at home and never had developed. I have absolutely no idea what's on it but it must be at least 7 years old.
3. Compact mirror. I'm female. Enough said.
4. A light saber. Not a real one obviously. It's star wars lego and clearly belongs to my son who happens to think my bag is intended for storing his belongings as well as my own. And yes, that snotty tissue also belongs to him
5. My purse. It's MASSIVE. It has to be to hold the amount of cards in there and I dont just mean credit cards, there's points cards, library cards, petrol cards, etc. There is literately no room for any money, which is handy seeing as I dont have much!
5 Favourite Shops
1. Topshop
2. River Island
3. H&M
4. Any kind of deli counter
5. Paperchase. I love stationary, although it's a bit expensive in Paperchase so I just walk around the shop touching everything and then leave!
5 Favourite Foods
1. Prawns in filo pastry
2. Roast Potatoes (crispy ones)
3. Zinger Tower Burger (the one with the hash brown)
4. Any kind of cheese
5. Stuffed or deep fried mushrooms
Hmmm a lot of carbs going on there!
And so there you have it. My 5 of 5

Nothing Ventured, Nothing Gained
Woooo super excited because tonight I start a photography class. This is something I wanted to do when I was in college but for some reason chose psychology! I've been kicking myself ever since. If I'm honest I'm also feeling a wee bit nervous, think it's the whole classroom environment and meeting new people but fingers crossed everyone will be nice and I think it's good to push yourself in these situations. I don't want to go through life not trying things because I'm a bit scared. I don't want to be kicking myself again this time next year for not trying out this class. So to everyone who's reading this and is umming and ahhhing over trying something new, just give it a go (unless it's illegal!) Oooh and wish me luck : )

Time is ticking
Wow I actually don't know where the time is going. When I started this blog I had visions of me posting every few days and although I have a million things I want to say I dont actually have the time to post them! Hmm this could pose a problem!
One thing I've noticed as you get older, time seems to go faster. Why is this?? When you're a kid you cant wait to grow up and school seemed to last forever. Now we're older time goes way to fast! Has anyone else noticed this?

Shellactastic 7 Days In
Here's a quick Shellac update for those of you interested in the budge proof latest nail craze. Slightly worn on the tip of the middle nail. Nails have withstood numerous washing up sessions, crazy golf, swimming, constant cleaning up and a drunken night out! All in all nails not doing too badly. Would definitely recommend for special occasions.

Holly Snowmobile
Ok, this time last week I was totally working my maxi skirt and gladiator sandals, gypsy esq look and today I have so many layers on I'm having trouble bending my arms! What is going on with this weather?! We have snow!? Goddamn it I've had to retrieve my winter coat from its vacuum pack. Natural tan tights have been replaced with ultra thick black ones. The heating has been turned back on!! On the plus side at least we wont be subjected to some of the half naked sights we were subjected to last week. There is a time and a place for exposing that amount of pimply flesh people and that place is somewhere very far from here!!
